I woke up around 6.20 am and it still wasn't early enough. I fedd
the cats as usual then a bit later I got the train to work. I am now
reading Fahrenheit 451 on the train, which is another great book that I
would recommend. In the story books are banned and Guy Montag is a
fireman charged with making sure all books are burnt. He meets a 17
year old girl called Clarisse McLellan who shows him a different way of
thinking, and makes him realise that he is not happy with life. Montag
is married to Mildred and the story has a scene where Mildred has taken
an overdose and has to have her stomach pumped out. Montag begins to
see things differently, then he finds out that Clarisses has been
killed in a car accident and life begins to fall apart for him, he
starts reading books....
I love the way that Bradbury allows us to see what Montag is seeing,
and how effectively Clarisse's simple innocence is drawn. Clarisses
sees the simple things that nobody else notices....
At work, I spent the morning working on reports and sorting out some
stuff for the users. Another reckons they haven't got a laptop and my
boss spent ages trying to find evidence that they had in fact been
issued with one.
At lunchtime I went on the board and then bought my lunch in
Starbucks.
In the afternoon it was quiet again, and right at the end I found out
that the user did in fact get his laptop.
I got the train home, reading some more Bradbury then I got home and
went on line.
I went in web chat where I was interrogated. The spotlight was turned
on me and questions fired at me. I gave answers and then left.
My other board seems to be surviving despite the fact that I haven't
been there in a while. A lot of the members have met each other as
well. If I can spread a little happiness, I thought, then my work is
done.
I went back to the board and then offline to watch Big Brother, which
is getting quite fraught and tense. Nobody likes Jade, Tim is desperate
to cling onto to his status. I fully expect that they will begin to
have major rows shortly.
Or the barrier gets torn down in a drunken rampage. Tim orders a ?25
cigar.
I chatted to ... for awhile but my mind was confused by the
interrogation earlier this evening. People think one thing and are
convinced of another and I stand in the middle saying, this is wrong,
this is unfair, but I still like them all.
I wrote a couple of emails and then went off line. As life seems to
move along and I see parallels between reality and life, I hear an echo
of the way it was last year and hope that it is just an echo.
I read another abc members work and made some comments which I hope are
taken positively. Writing is never easy.
