Message To The Present

Who be you now, strange mind within
That pleasantly altered shell?
Have you grown, has that light
Changed itself as well?
Or have you remained as once you were,
Recognisable, much like me?
Unchanging, stuck into the frame
Of conscious mentality?
Whatever your image, whatever your light,
There must still be some seed
That recalls upon an ancient time,
And it is to this I plead.
Remember what it was you were,
And what you came to be.
No matter the changes of your heart
Always try to see
The truth that lies behind the world.
Never be blinded by those
That sought to alter this will of mine
Or bring it to a close.
Keep your wits, be they your own
Creations, or those passed
On to you from what was me,
Cling to them and stand fast.
Open those eyes that cost so much
To stop from growing dim.
Know that what you are right now
Will one day soon be him&;#8230;
That person to whom I write this now,
Is the same to me as you.
Yet to you I am a shadow self,
And he a phantom you.
None of us can claim to know
What you and he will be.
I am you, you are him,
And all of us are me.
You wonder now that when he reads
This bottle of the past,
Will he scorn it, or will he see
It's meaning, feel it's grasp?
Now you recall how once you were,
And that is all I desire.
The life inside that mind of ours
Is once more lit with fire.
Think back to me upon this eve,
Do not let me die.
There was a time when I was you,
And one day, you'll be I.
