In 'The Tube', laughing happily and sharing a joke with Loneliness -
sharing a pint and filling an ashtray - and contemplating changing my
life. The 'Oz' across the bar talks of Lisbon and happier times, a
smoky hazy atmosphere of cigars and memories.
Suddenly a door opens, and all the invisible creatures of my childhood
come flying and trotting in - werewolves in dog-leads, lizards with red
sticky baubles on their toes, and a bouncy magic wand in my clumsy
eight-year-old paw that enables me to be their creator and
friend.
I clench my eyelashes and long for a mummy-and-daddy day, a
dancing-in-green-spotty-leggings day, a more dependent and more
ignorant life.
