Randall Road

I was watching MTV
The day the atom split
I got up quickly when I heard
The brand new latest hit
The cows stood round in fields nearby
Seemed shocked to see the cloud
Mushrooms, they were banned in school
But in the sky allowed
The windowpanes were black, of course
The streets were painted grey
We all built dustmen in the road
Y'know, to pass the day
The neighbours pulled together well
We cooked and queued and sang
A miracle of Britishness
A napalm-happy clan
Just taking a cup of sugar
Just taking a cup of tea
Just borrowing this shotgun
For my greedy family
Mum listened to the radio
Dad read the stocks and shares
My brother woke up coughing
I woke up with less hair
The sun had got his gas mask on
Hip hip hip hooray
The moon was saying, "Ban the Bomb!"
The fallout said "O.K."
