I've just shared my story with a journalist.

I'm not sure where our unique story will go but maybe there is promise ahead. I spoke to a lovely young lady, apparently the same age as my eldest daughter, about everything that could she shared in an hour on the telephone.

I spoke proudly about my dad. How he fought back after having both his eyes removed. How he didn't want people to feel sorry for him as he tapped around Swan Gardens, Coventry in the dark. Although I was only a kid when he died I can imagine him doing that! I spoke of how he left his loving family in Coventry; apparently leaving with only his suitcase. I don't think I would have had the courage to do such a think but I'm of course glad that he did. After all I wouldn't be here now, nor would our three children; or our grand-daughter...soon five.

I spoke of how mum, also blind, eloped from Northamptonshire to marry my dad at a Registry office in London with no family present. In a hour I spoke of courage, great tragedy, despair, loss and cruelty, which couldn't be imagined and probably would be difficult for the reader to believe.
It feels like our journey wouldn't end yet it did.
I spoke about meeting a lost paternal family, after decades, about another cruel blind man but also about hope, determination and why I spent over five years, knocking on over fifty doors in my town; my reasons for doing so and so much more.

I now hold my book, Searching....fifty shades of sight....this will be obtainable shortly as a e-book.....on many sites.
Our story will be in a monthly magazine; but not until September.

Yes Esther, amazing courage, perhaps too difficult to comprehend. It also takes courage to write such a book. So well, done. I'll buy a copy when it comes out.

I decided to sit down and write about the failings that I saw growing up; still see now. I want to protect the innocent yet draw attention to a system which I know is wrong. I wanted to talk about domestic violence, poverty, how children are still being let down...their only crime being poor. I'm fortunate in that my life and that of my own family is comfortable but this is not good enough for me. It might have sounded, as I wrote that I am a victim, so many kid's are victims. I want to speak out, encourage people to follow their dreams, release their god given talents and ask for help if they need it. Sorry for the rambling. Thank you for your kind words.

Its a fascinating story Esther. I for one would buy it in a heartbeat.

Thank you so very much for all your support; this really encouraged me to continue. I've the paper-back copies now whilst the e-books are going onto many sites. I'll pop the first chapter onto this site so you can have a idea of how I tackled this story. I think my daughter wanted me to stop writing and let it all go yet but writing, feeling a sad satisfaction on completion, I can actually move on. I have just interviewed a colleague, who worked with me at Welfare Rights until we were forced to close down, she has shared her own story with me this morning. I plan to release the revised copy of Memories of Finedon but with all the additional stories I'm able to collect. Anyone who shares their story with me will be given a free copy by me...I will just ask for the cost of postage....if the book is to be posted. I also have a bee in my bonnet regarding the cruel way vulnerable people are being treated by the system just now...something else to shout about. Once again very many thanks.
