"Where was I?"
The little girl looked up from the open fire with a quizzical look on
her pale oval little face. "Quantor had just knocked over the giant and
was about to hit him on the head with his club."
"Oh yes, Quantor, I must of dozed off."
"You have been asleep for half an hour granddad."
"Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Is it time for your bedtime then?"
"No, finish the story, I'm not sleepy yet."
"OK" replied the old man chuckling to himself.
"Yes, yes Quantor raised his mighty club over the giants head. The
giant lay there on his back felled by the little man and staring up at
him blinking. Quantor looked down and at the sorrowful giant and
hesitated, he lowered his club and sat down, the giant just lay there.
"Aren't you going to kill me?" Asked the giant. "No." sighed Quantor.
"Then I am in your debt," and with that the giant got up, towering way
above Quantor, he offered his massive hand to the little man. "Thank
you Quantor of Derino." Quanto's little hand and arm was wrapped in the
giants grip, but it was surprisingly gentle. The giant turned to go,
then stopped. "I will leave Derino for ever, but if you are ever in
need, blow on this conch." And with that he held out a shell, Quanto
took it and smiled, "thank you." Then the giant was gone striding
slowly but already some distance away."
"Grandad" said the little girl.
"Yes, Tonia."
"When is Mummy coming home?"
"She will be out all night, well past your bedtime." Replied the old
man.
"Where is she?"
"She is entertaining a friend." Answered her granddad.
"She has a lot of friends, doesn't she" stated the girl.
"Yes she does."
"I hope I have as many friend as mummy, when I am a grown up."
The old man suppressed a grimace and smiled down at Tonia's angelic
little face, "I think it's time for your bedtime."
"Good night granddaddy."
