Books in the Background

Yesterday I heard someone complaining about liberal know it alls who always make sure to have books in the background when they skype on teevee. The complaintant had no books in her background and gave the impression that she was proud of it.
Here we go with another polarization.
My desk is located so that I can look out a window when I type. One of my two bookshelves is located to my left. When I do face time, my books are not in the background. I have two closed doors behind me, one leading to a bathroom and the other leading to a closet. I suppose I could leave the doors open to show off my bathroom shower and the clothes in my closet which would make the complaintant feel better and less suspicious about me.
"I thought he was a libtard but God bless him, he's not showing any books."
Of course, I'll never be on national teevee, like the complaintant. I'll never have the money nor the fame nor the influence of the complaintant. All I have are my invisible books, my keyboard, my voice and my face.
The complaintant suggests that "books in the background" are a subliminal gimmick to suggest superior intelligence.
A gimmick is pretty much useless without an angle. An angle is pretty much uselsss without a push. I have very little push whereas the complaintant has a huge push with her gimmick being she has zero books and her angle being "I'm not a phony intellectual showing off books that I have never read because I don't read a lot of books and neither do you so you can trust me to tell it like it is."
That's right.
The complaintant is just like all of the good folks at home that she pretends to relate to and "we don't need no stinken books now do we. Trust me. I'll tell ya what's up."
And we compliment her on the pastel color of the wall behind her and the modest pottery on the shelf in front of the wall, so tasteful and simple and wish we were as smart as rich and as trustworthy.
And glad that we haven't read a book in years.

books are a good thing. But
books are a good thing. But they need to be read. books in the background is a gimmick for some. But for others, like me and you, it's because that's our first love.
