Mave's Pretend Echo

I just sat down.
I listened at the door, floor;
what's more I listened to the wall too.
I'm aware it sounds unusual.
(nervous laugh) I thought-
well, I thought someone else in
this building was playing the axe*
(I thought we were the only ones so morbidly courageous)
and that like a family secret
it had been adopted by "the Locals".
`Twas
only bass really;
I can't help but wonder
if when a death occurs,
the space inherits that cold.
Shivering, in winter,
a baby and her mother were killed
with an axe in this apartment.
This chilly air...
The song no longer seems
coincidental
yet epidemically
contagious.
