Snake
Jennifer Pickup, 22.10.2025
There is a snake, here in the grass,
A friendly snake, it smiles and laughs -
With skin as smooth as silken thread,
And pretty patterns on its head.
I ignored warnings in my mind
That it may be the poisonous kind -
I was not careful what I said,
And now, the snake, it starts to shed.
So here I am holding the skin
The snake has left, an ugly thing -
It burns my hands, it burns my heart,
Why did I not see at the start?
Its whispering venomous tongue,
Poisons the ears of all who come -
Its fangs have pierced my fragile skin,
The pain uncurls right from within.
Oh, do not trust, beware the snake!
Your paradises it will break -
We’re taught this from an early age,
Eve gracing every Bible‘s page.
Like Eve, I have been taken in,
The snake has tainted me with sin -
Both love and like have turned to hate,
The snake believes it’s sealed my fate.
The snake is clever, it is sly,
It doesn’t hesitate to lie -
It takes the truth and twists it round,
It tries to pin me to the ground.
The snake believes that it has won,
Thinks that it’s the dominant one -
It wraps its coils around me tight,
And tries to crush me with its might.
But here under the midnight sun,
Shine snake’s true colours one by one -
Peel back the layers and you’ll see,
There is no snake that can hurt me!
There is a snake, here in the grass,
An evil snake, it chose its path -
It picked the wrong Eve to attack,
And now there is no turning back.
