After watching a two-hour verbal rant by the President of the United States, threatening to destroy Iran’s bridges, power plants and infrastructure, if they did not fully capitulate to his demands by a certain time on Tuesday. I was somewhat taken aback. Originally, the press conference was supposed to be spent, lauding the U.S. Military’s rescue of the second crewman on the downed F-15. This would have been a great opportunity to laud our armed forces and emphasize that it is one of our finest traditions, to “leave no man behind.” Instead, we got a pre-programmed verbal rant that left everyone saying “Huh,” “WTF?”
 
This unusual performance reminded me of a scene from a classic movie “The Caine Mutiny,” starring Humphrey Bogart. The compelling scene of the movie featured Humphrey Bogart, as Captain Queeg, testifying during the Court martial of one of his officers, who had sidelined him, they thought he was giving questionable orders during a hurricane. His men thought in his confused state, that he might founder the ship.
 
The intensely focused Captain Queeg, in testimony, ranted on for a lengthy period about how all of his officers and some of the crew had conspired with each other to steal two quarts of strawberries. Rolling a handful of steel balls together faster and faster, Queeg complained of this heinous crime. He said over and over how his focused logic and attention to detail had discovered the loss of the missing two quarts of strawberries.
 
By then, the Military tribunal realized that this man needed a rest in a recovery area, behind the lines. The accused officer was acquitted of all charges.
 
So, in short, I ask the logical question “who stole the strawberries ?“ before the President’s rant today? Perhaps he too, like Captain Queeg, needs some rest behind the lines for a bit.
 
Maybe we can then come to terms with Iran and avoid any more useless expenditure of lives, theirs and ours.

I think it's a mistake to use up your brain cells trying to work out his motivation when he has very few of his own left - not that he had many in the first place!

A very good analogy, but unfortunately I don't think that shuffling Trump off to the 'Bide-a-Wee Rest Home for Retired Presidents' would have any effect on the current crisis.

The real power behind the throne right now is Hegseth. When he changed his own job title from Secretary of Defense to Secretary of War we could all see he was spoiling for a fight – literally.

Take that WhatsApp meeting where the journalist, who was mistakenly invited, released some of the conversation.  The gung-ho language used by Hegseth, Waltz and Vance make it obvious that they regard it all as a 21st century version of Cowboys and Indians. And don't forget they're all good Christians, so god is on their side too. 'God speed our brave warriors' was one phrase used.  Those warriors being about to go off on a raid which killed six Yemeni children.

I don't think Trump or his cabinet have any real grasp of the horrors they have unleashed. It really is all some sort of game to them.

Trump is barking mad. He was before and still is now. Quite how he's managed to be elected a second time is beyond me. He will end us all.
