Q - Early Memories

I awoke and saw sun flickering through waving leafy fronds
Felt shadows dancing on my cheeks, light like caressing fingers
Left alone, once, with evening blazing, sky bright as bronze
Bud fading, until only bluish half-light in the distance lingers
Trudging home, face to the ground, blades of grass blur by,
Shapes dark against the night are houses, where lights burn
Frowning, fists clenched, trying so hard not to cry,
To familiar walls, faces, smells, dreams I wearily return
Dreams that come when I tire of hiding from stains on the wall
Looming in the corner of my eye, murky, threatening shapes
Forcing me down deep into the pillows, making me fall
Into bluish, hazy sleep, strands of hair, silent mouth gapes
Eyes flick open ,heart judders,I feel I have fallen from a height
Whirling down from the stars, crashing into cold sweating
softness
She is always there then, murmuring softly as she clicks on the
light
Driving back the shadows, ending the nightmare like an ancient
goddess
Soothing me into a gentle, contented, dreamless sleep
Until morning strokes me awake and burns dark corners away
And the song of birds, the chill of air, sky blue and deep
Tell me night is gone and I can live another day.
