Rain Again

Rain again, hissing on a corrugated iron roof
Making me shiver as I lay in warmth so deep
That the sound outside seemed somehow aloof
A mere hint, a watery precursor of sleep
Wherein those sighing voices, those droplets of dark
Would whisper of genius, of fantastic invention
Of ideas that would fade like a spark
From a bonfire, to become mere vestiges, an after-sensation
Of power, just dripping now as the shower passes,
A pale memory, fading like a dream
At waking.
