Mornington Heights

The recent story challenge by Peny4thought inspired me to write this little poem.
OOO
In Mornigton Heights,
midnight
Is the time
to commit crime
Milton, the Sheriff
has found a stiff
but Jake, the Deputy
thinks it's his duty
to investigate
the dead man's fate,
the local gang's boss
Snodgrass, Amos
The Sheriff is uncouth;
Jake is a better sleuth.
Doggedly, he sticks at it
and finds the culprit.
It is the police rookie
who likes boogie-wogie,
arrogantly struts
and eats doughnuts.
At the end of the day
we can all shout Hurray!
and confidently say
that crime doesn't pay.
