Leggings - old friends
Leggings - Old friends.
Kitty turned up in a rush as I sat on the sofa dreaming.
"Whats up?" she said making her own coffee. Loudly whipping the milk like a professional. I put my hands over my ears.
"Not sure!" I replied, "Thinking I should try talking to old friends, or at least their acquaintances."
"Any bod in particular?" she inquired as she handed me a perfectly dusted coffee. She sipped hers. Sniffed. "Wait, I need sugar!"
"Not for me, had to give it up, threatened with immanent disorder!"
Two minutes later she was perched on an easy chair facing mine. "This is nice!" she congratulated me, "What modern fabric!"
"Its PACT," I informed her quickly, "The material I picked up from the Knitters & Stitchers open morning last week. It was quite different from dress making!"
"Often wondered about PACT," Kitty replied, "They get some good stuff in!"
"Yes, I think this is top of the range M & S," I told her, "They have chairs like this in their furniture catalog."
"Wheels and all!"
"Castors!" I corrected her. "Hows the dress making going?"
"We have a show next week. I've got about half made up - for next season. The new girl, still at college has a caseload of x designs to do..."
"Wuh! Wouldn't be in her shoes for anyone!" I half grinned, so many bitter sweet memories of things half right, and nothing ever perfect.
"So which old friend?"
"He was in America long ago. Ron, he wrote the first Mission Earth series... We discussed it all when I was over there. I told him I was going to use that title, and he laughed and told me only if he didn't first..."
"He may be dead and gone..."
"I think he must be, howsoever, perhaps his friends need a warning because the psychic plane is full of dire deeds."
We looked at each other.
"The same Dreadfuls?"
"Yes, only they are being pushed, and they are scared silly. Greedy and silly!"
"Whats going on."
"Only I'm not sure who is picking up who."
"Dam silly Dreadfuls - are into Star Wars... and with those radios could cause more mayhem than we have to counter it."
"It's become more apparent by the day - and yet - even if they had everything. There might be no world to enjoy it on."
"You might be in need of a rest."
"Yes. I am. Saw a Doctor earlier in the week... I'm sick!"
Kitty sat back and laughed. "Look!" she said, "You're so much not Princess Leila!"
"No hairy wheels to hold me down! It'll be okay, I got some large bubble wands to hold off them light sabers with!"
"Have you heard him yet?"
"Yes, several times ordering his troops. They are searching for someone."
"You've got something in this coffee. Haven't you?"
"Yes it's called Coffee!"
"Right I'm off to work, I'll pop back afterwards. Don't go off with any Star-ship troopers!"
"Fat chance! The Empire strikes back!"
