Traffic picks up bout 7.30, always bin an early riser.
Got a good view of the road sittin ere with me cuppa.
There's always that fella, in such hurry, with his brief case.
How long's he been takin that bus now? Must be seven, eight years.
The school kids have grown and paired up, I see em holding hands, larking about.
At 10 or 10:15, she'll go by as usual. It's like the highlight of my morning, Thursdays that is.
For six weeks she din't go by. Thought summin might ave happened to her. I'd ave no way of knowing what. Was quite worried matter o fact.
Then there she was again.
My sister, goin by.
Just like usual. She never looks up. Reckon she knows I'm there but she don't look.
Reckon she's goin to the market to meet that neighbour of ers, Janice or summin.
I can picture em with the tea pot between em. She'd probly ave a scone or summin.
She's put on weight, but then, so ave I.
Er hair's full grey now. She wore it long for a while, then short again. I prefer it short, suits her better.
Used to think I eard the bell go, or footsteps by the door, thought it might be er.
Silly girl, I'd tell me-self. She won't go doin that.
Don't think I'd stand lookin er in the eye anyway.
What's done is done. I can't forget. Wouldn't be right.
She ad a bit of a limp in the Spring, must av gone and fallen down or summin. She looks alright though. She carries erself well, always has.
Will be fifteen years next week. Fifteen years, not a word between us.
People give their advice.
They mean well, I know that.
Talk of by-gones bein by-gones and water under the bridge.
Even Dr Kingsnorth, when me chest was bad, said summin bout talking to er.
They're right, course they are.
They say summin has to give, one of us has to make a move.
It won't be me.
