A Belfast Christmas 1966
By Paul McCann
It was Christmas Eve in Belfast , 1966 .
The milkmen brought their bottles and
coal men brought their bricks .
Buses brought workers home
who had finished their last shifts .
Shoppers headed to the city for last minute gifts .
People linked arm in arm ,
as they walked through the crowd .
There was peace and joy in a city that did us proud .
Outside the City hall stood a Christmas tree so tall ,
the lights sparkled in the night and snow began to fall .
The stars in Royal Avenue glittered up above and friendly faces everywhere
looked at you with love .
Everyone wished you Happy Christmas
as they passed you ,
it was 1966 , a time that we all knew .
