Children At Play On Christmas Day
By Paul McCann
It was Christmas day and off we went.
on pogo sticks with our knees half bent
ready to hop and off we would go ,
along the street in the falling snow
Running and skipping having some fun ,
chasing the day before it begun
Christmas day we loved it a lot ,
we made stories and songs on the spot..
Those were the good old days of childhood,
when I was young and the times were good.
Playing marbles upon mucky ground. ,
then in our go carts we’d drive around.
With bows and arrows or tommy guns,
off to war we went as little ones.
In the streets there as children we played,
where imaginations often strayed.
far beyond the places that we knew ,
high above the clouds where Giants grew ,
We were kids at play on Christmas day
and no one could take our joy away .
