Green Fields Of Erin
By Paul McCann
The hills they cried out to the sea ,
for all the suffering they’ve seen in times gone by .
Oh green fields of Erin you have seen the crops die
and most of your people the same
and more left the shore , to find better tomorrows
and never returned back again .
To the sea, in their boats ,
they all went out , with their hopes and their ropes
all stowed away ,.
The thick mist came down and the winds they did howl
in their face at the end of the day .
Green fields of Erin , dear land of our birth ,
many are scattered all over the earth ,
some still remain there and more will follow
to cherish that place for what it is worth .
It’s the homeland we love ,
be it in freedom of flight, or in a struggle to fight,
we hold in our hearts and deep in our soul
the green fields of Erin with all our might .
With all the lost secrets and memories and
everything that time often conceals ,
the thing that can never hide away
is the love we all have for Erin’s green fields .
