Living With Dementia
By Paul McCann
So who are you , wouldn’t you like to know .
You always seem so lost round here
With no place to go .
They say you’ve got dementia but what does that mean .
Are you here or over there,
Or somewhere in between ..
If I knew where we could meet
Would you say hello
And tell me what it was like not so long ago .
I want to know the reason why ,
you’re so misunderstood .
Tell me, could you explain ,
Do you think that you could .
Part of you has disappeared
And we’re the ones who’s left .
Some of us hear you speak
while others have gone deaf,
because they’re not really listening ,
they don’t really care
are you really somebody
and touch what’s not there .
Picking things up off the floor ,
that only you can see ,
You’re looking at someone else
and I know it’s not me you can see
because they questioned and assessed you ...
with dementia
But what is it that they’ve diagnosed .
You’re somebody I suppose that's got dementia
But you’re someone I know.,
maybe a mother or a father
part of a family ...
You’re never that forgotten to me .
.
