For My Name’s Sake
By Paul McCann
You have carved my name in the palm of your hand
and that is something they’ll never understand
You knew me before I was born .
You formed me .
You moulded me .
You gave me a reason to be .
The love you have for me is always the same .
I am yours and you have called me by my name .
You breathed life into me and all my children .
Chosen to be sons of God and sons of men .
Praise You and honour your name .
Alleluia, Alleluia all praise and glory to you .
Mighty God , creator of my descendants and ancestors ,
and all of my dependants we have heard Your word and
we know who You are .
Nothing can withstand Your will and Your power .
For my children’s children in a future bright
may their lives be covered with showering light
to guide their way with every step they take
Into your hands I place them
for my names sake .
May angels watch them from above and beyond ,
what ever their name and where ever they’re from .
May they find peace with every breath they take
and eternal love Lord for my names sake
.

I was a bit puzzled, Paul, at first by this. I assumed you were thinking of the phrase as in Psalm 23:3 of the Lord saying he will bless 'for His name's sake', ie those who trust in Him are blessed because they are in Jesus, so are his children and perfect in His sight, and accepted as he is accepted, loved because Jesus is beloved and has never sinned (he blesses, for 'My own [His own, God's] name's sake). So we pray 'for Your own name's sake' claiming that relationship and also that we are praying for things to be for His glory.
I gather though you are praying that as you are his, and your name on his hands, so you are asking that he hears your prayer for your family for whom you pray and bless them, because he loves you and cares for what you care about. And so that is why you pray for 'my (your own) name's sake'? Rhiannon
