The Names of The Games
By Paul McCann
Playing two balls against a brick wall with balls bouncing back
Some could play three balls and sing along for the craic .
Some would give you a wrist rub , others a knuckle rap .
It was all part of the fun in Ardoyne growing up .
I remember playing tiggy, metal or off ground
Hide and seek and you’d have to see who couldn’t be found .
Forum bar swinging , kick the tin , making stories up .
Leapfrog , piggy back fights , playing marlies in the muck .
Thunder and lightning or rap the doors it was good fun
you ran like hell it but must have been frightening for some.
Skipping two ropes , German elastic . playing two balls ,
Dabs , stick in the mud , handball against the forum walls
Red rover you called someone over to be with you .
Who’s got the ball , ask Quennio, but she never knew .
Cops and robbers and rallio , one two three red lights .
Cowboys and Indians were always getting into fights.
Rounders and Kribby , spin the bottle and run catch kiss
Pussy in the four corners , no one had fun like this .

I certainly remember cowboys
I certainly remember cowboys and indians, also elastics and skipping ropes too. We used to play Jacks and also marbles up and down the pavement, dreading if one of your marbles went in the gutter, because then they were easier to hit.
There were many games you mention that I can't remember, but it was a fun read bringing back my own memories of childhood.
Thank you.
Jenny.
