Picnic In A Storm

There were people on the rocks

eating chips inside a box 

as seagulls came for a free lunch

in many hungry flocks .

Then weather changed again 

bringing down torrential rain, 

everyone ran for cover

as  the rain ran down the drain .

The picnic people resigned 

off the rocks to stand in line 

at a take away food place 

that was open all the time . 

There were bakers at the bus stop 

beside the old town clock

and bikers with no helmets 

standing at the meat  pie shop .

There were bikes tied up with chains 

that were left out in the rain

as their  riders looked at the sky

wishing they’d never came .

The seagulls didn’t mind

all the soggy chips left behind 

thrown away like wet burdens  ,

for anyone to find .
