The Polisher And The Painter
By Paul McCann
There's a twinkle in the twilight
as a man walks down on the street .
While the parlour lights of Belfast
touch the place where old ghosts meet .
Standing just inside a doorway
in a parlour small and quaint .
Is the painter on a platform
with a bucket full of paint .
All the nosey passers by looked in
and saw him decorate,
as someone pointed out to him
that he'd made a small mistake .
So around and around the parlour
the painter took a peek ,
In the corner was a piano
that overlooked the street .
But the high polish that once it had
was now covered in paint .
The words that came from the painter's mouth
were not those of Saint.
The piano had these scattered
little white spots on the top
and each one of them had to removed
every single drop .
So a French polisher was hired
to fix the painters mistake
he re-repolished the piano
while the painter took a break.
The house was filled with antiques
and polisher wore a smirk
Because while he did the piano
they offered him more work .
The asked the polisher if he could
restore some furniture
and so he started work
polishing the antiques that were there
the painter and the polisher
worked together everyday
and at the end of the week
they collected their weekly pay .
