“The Pub Singer ”
By Paul McCann
All the boys from the rail always drink in Moss Vale,
in this pub where singing’s not allowed .
Then this man at the bar sang Whiskey In The Jar
a good singer called Mr O’Dowd .
Someone started to shout and then a fight broke out.
“A little bit of order.”
they said .
The singer kept singing as fists were a flinging,
and out the door the publican fled .
Then this straight talking man lifted up his right hand
and said ,
“ How can we stop from singing .“
He was big as a bull and was nobody’s fool
So everyone just started singing.
“Sure ring dee me doo dar , there’s whiskey in the jar .
and not one dared say it was too loud .
A known street walking man was unable to stand
screamed out ,
“Three cheers for Mr O’Dowd .“ .
So as good as his word , no one dared to disturb ,
Mr O’Dowd as he sang that day .
The publican moved out and they all ordered stout ,
in that pub where music's there to stay .
