The Songbird And The Dove
By Paul McCann
.
She came down from the sky
and she knew how to fly ,
long before she could sing .
It didn’t take too long
and she captured her song
one morning in the spring .
Then her wings turned to stone
and she was left unknown
when winter came her way .
She slept around in slums
and whistled for some crumbs
at the dawn of the day .
She sang her song at dusk
where the beggars would busk
to people passing by .
The moon looked down on her
lost in the world somewhere,
with the song that she sung .
The moon spoke to the sky
and to the stars on high
before the day begun .
When the morning sun shone
her wings of stone had gone
and the songbird could fly .
She flew away somewhere
with a song that she shared
with a lark in the sky .
The lark sang the song clear
for everyone to hear
on that beautiful day .
With a sky full of love
the songbird and the dove
together flew away .
