At The Summer Fair

I had two bob to spare.
Better than some who had none .

I went down to the fair .

On the sidewalks of Dundrum.

I chanced my arm there

on the lucky number one .

Sure I won fair and square  

and didn’t I have some fun .

At the carnival there
in the summer at Dundrum.

Fairs are always exciting to the young. I grew up in a village and the fair would come every summer during the school summer holidays. The rides were amazing, but the only thing I ever won was a goldfish, which sadly died even before I got it home.

I wondered why you didn't have fun? I used to save up all my pocket money for the fair, the highlight of the summer. Just curious!

Hi Jenny , Yes lovely to hear about upur youth ass well; . We always had Gypsies who ran a lot of the fairs  and  I have many fond memories of those . In my poem I used a kind of double negative queston when I said , .. " and didn;t I have some fun ?"

Meaning I had a great time , Sorry if that was confusing .
