"It was the hour of evil reserved for the devil..."
The book "Curse of the Moloch" is one of fantasy and horror. It is
mixed with the feared presence of the creatures of the nether world and
coupled with horrendous acts of murder. The murderer was a demented man
(now in the depth of the fires of hell) by the name of Jeremiah
Micaiah, who was plagued with an imaginative threat of the fire god,
MOLOCH. It was for the sinful act of committing Miz' Jezebel, his
mother to a fiery death (described in the copy). The god, to him, was
one of vengeance whose legions of demoniac spirits sacrificed the child
of sin in the pit of the damned.
The book opens with a prologue, which will give the readers the
background to the myth of the demi-god, the MOLOCH.
Then the story unfolds to murder. The first chapter opens to a scene
where witnesses were describing a criminal act to the minions of the
law. The crime, committed the same night, was on the street in a
run-down area of the city. An elder, and his wife, had seen a murderous
beating of woman by a crazed mad man.Their sighting was through a
window in their flat. They were able to state that the beating was
directed mainly on the head of the woman, coupled with curses mixed
with a strange word MOLOCH, repeated over and over again.
The second chapter heightens the tension of the story.
The story then delves into the nitty-gritty of murderous intent. The
murderer was stalking his next victim - namely a woman with red hair.
This link in his imagination was to Miz' Jezebel, his mother, whose
colour of hair was red; a woman he deliberately trapped in his torching
of their home. The reason was to stop her repeated threats of hell and
damnation for his supposed sins, which ended with the fear of
punishment through retribution by the fire god MOLOCH. Eight times the
apparition of his mother, namely a woman with red hair, walked the
streets in his sight. Each time he had beaten his supposed mother to
death in order to stop her from haunting him with the threat of the
MOLOCH..
The novel continues with a flashback of the Jeremiah Micaiah's life,
which will explain his dreaded superstitious fears, which forced him
into murderous acts. The reader will be introduced to the imaginative,
but horrific appearance of the calf-headed pagan fire god, the MOLOCH,
and the frenzied ceremony of the child sacrifice by burning in his
honour.
The copy tells of his community ridden with superstitious beliefs. It
explains Biblical wrath and retribution coupled with the threat of the
hell-fires of the MOLOCH for the sinful acts. The reader is introduced
to the people in his life - His mother, Miz' Jezebel, a pious
superstitious creature: Lemmuel, his father, a hardbitten man who meets
an early death: Rev'rend Parker, the backwood preacher and his wife:
His semi-literate companions and work mates: The friendly spirits, his
boon companions; and the denizens of hell who haunt him.
His work in coalmine is described. It is followed by a description of
the accident in the pits, which left him mentally unstable. After the
incident he had deep visions of devils and demons that drove him to a
mad world of living hell and damnation. And the threat of the MOLOCH,
the fire god caused increasing fear.
Within the book are five sidebars inserted between chapters, which
introduces the reader to the world of demons and spirits.
The copy tells of the closure of the pits and its aftermath, which led
to poverty and drink. Drunkeness fueled the argument between Jeremiah
Micaiah and Miz' Jezebel. The outcome was the fiery death of the woman.
The fire, caused by Jeremiah in his madness, destroyed their two-storey
house. The man had deliberately trapped his mother in the cellar. The
raging fire muted Miz Jezebel's screams. Imaginary demons and devils
haunted Jeremiah for his murderous act and he took to flight. His
mother's ghost appeared and threatened to sacrifice him to the hell
fires of the MOLOCH.
The reader follows him as hid in the nearby forest to escape the threat
of his mother's ghost. Only to meet a runaway with red hair, which was
to him a sign of the sight of his mother. The girl was beaten to death
and became the first victim in his path of murder in order to escape
the judgement. Flight continued as he hopped a train where again he saw
the colour of red. The path led to the city where a missionary group
gave him shelter. But the demented creature continued to meet the sight
of his haunting red-haired mother. Each time he bludgeoned his supposed
mother to death to escape the fate of the MOLOCH.
The end of the narration - well it is one of requital by the fire-god
MOLOCH. He rose from the depths of the earth to claim his sacrificial
lamb. Quite unusual...
