A Smile

Your face creases into
A fraudulent expression that hides
Alternatively, forgets.
Friends once;
For a period of time
Though strangers would not perceive.
The times we cared,
The naivety shared;
No cloud in the looming blue of our park,
And later that sweet completion in the dark.
In bitterness I would say you,
But in truth it is us both,
Who find the past behind;
Our history obsolete,
The gap having grown too far.
As we are,
And never can be again
The same as we were then.
