Tears of Togetherness
Turning the pages of history
travelling through the zigzag lanes of memory
cleaning on focuses, the ageing blurrs
to ascertain from our decaying frames and features
from among friends“who is who”
as life and time have taken away the hue
with shows of wrinkles and chick bones
fallen teeth and changes of tones
locating each friend’s spouse by approximations
needed it care to avoid embarrassing situations
as an insult to an injury, “adding to fading memories
while sighing over friends’ ill-health stories
remembering the years of our golden era
transcending old age with a nostalgic aura
flying back over sixty years
but short-lived, then our joy and cheers
when as a bolt from blue
came the news, gruesome but true
“Our dear Uma is on heavenward ladder
to join his wife, Laxmi, who left us a few months earlier
after celebrating their golden jubilee of togetherness
as if to celebrate the next jubilee close to His holiness
and to prove that their conjugal love is benign
that over time and space it will shine.”
Laxmi left us as a lady divine.
As the Hindu scripotures define
a sure way of liberation of the soul
what is the ultimate human pursuits’ goal
with bangles on arms in vibration
on foreheads glittering vermillion
befor her loving hubby's eye
if a lady breaths her last sigh
her afterlife journey is heaven-bound.”
Laxmi is certainly is thus blessedly crowned.
Uma could not tolerate the pang of separation
as they were bound by the Lord in the Heaven
before their birth
on this mortal earth
and were sent to the earth crust
to arrest the present loss of conjugal trust.
Uma prayed for her company from the heart’s core.
He travelled to her and all earthly ties he tore
enduring the painful treatments of the mortal man
none could stand against his srong willed plan.
Hey Uma! You left your classmates crestfallen and grieved
Your dear and near ones stayed bereaved.
Your exemplary services to the society as a whole
give us pride and your fellow alumni, it, extole
Your daughter and two sons are orphans now
we bless them and pray for them for the earthly show
We wish them to grow your family tree, luxuriant
keeping your teaching of truth and humility at the forefront.
Our diamond jubilee celebration
to drive us back to our teenage frolic and fun
left us shocked panged. robbing it of its glamour
but consoled, we ourselves keeping you as our anchor
to bind us with our departed friends in this journey. arduous “
Hey departed friends welcome Uma; our friend, precious”
Yes Uma! we inferred this as your intention
to have at heaven the celebration
with friends who departed us
whom we missed in his journey, vicious
to have the get together at earth and heaven
your love is unique for all of us, it is certain
As secretary of our departing year in our Alma-master
and containing us in a souvenir as its editor
At each meeting abd at each step you will be before our eyes
surely it will continue till our last sighs
Both of you together at lords abode
must have been blissfully hallowed.”
Hey Lord! We Uma’s batchmastes pray in unison
for his and his spouse Laxmi’s reunion
and for the couple the blissful rest
but Lord! make us his batch mates blest
making them again Uma and Laxmi for us
to repeat the journey, wondrous
In your next creation
on the earth , the planet under the sun.
