Sly and wily,
slick and slippery,
shrewd and shifty,
slinky, stealthy,
snaky, sneaky,
cunning, canny,
conniving, contriving,
artful, astute,
insidious, surreptitious,
sneaky, crafty,
subtle, tricky –
furtive fox can flummox!

What a clever little poem. I like your alliteration.  I have never seen a sign like that. When my husband was alive he used to feed the fox that lived in the field. The neighbours who lost their chickens were not so pleased about it.

!! Real foxes raise various emotions, we love to see wildlife nearby, but farming in this present world has to be wary of them!! Sadly we need tp beware of those people being devious, or 'foxy'', devious.

The sign is my own invention remembering the signs you get for 'Beware of the bull!' - which we get at footpaths here someimes! Rhiannon

Yes it is so they farmers and hunters all say a fox is really so cunning I believe it. Have you read Reynard the Fox by John Masefield? My afrikaans grandfather was De Vos, dutch for "the fox".

PS. The very last word "flummox" I don't know? What does it mean?

No, I haven't read the Masefield poem, Tom. The apparent cunning of the fox has always been likened to people being devious in their dealings. I don't suppose that was why your Grandfather had the name!

Flummox is defined as 'to perplex (someone) greatly; bewilder' I was trying to play around with alliteration and rhyme in my verse with words to describe deviousness and trickery, and it seemed a suitable ending to balance 'furtive fox'!
