A Kingdom of wisdom and peace

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]

We long for love and peace where guns
are moulded into ploughs,
and everyone unkindness shuns,
concern, not hatred shows,
then missiles used to make a spade
and water pipes and more
– but now instead from such are made
the weaponry of war.

And so in many lands but few
aren’t poor, for money goes
to stockpile for disputes anew –
misunderstanding grows.
But God can melt malicious wills
or take them from the scene:
one day the world with peace he’ll fill    
and reign where fear had been.

Very appropriate poem to be sung in these awful days of war. when I can't sleep at night, I sign hymns in my head but can only remember the old ones I learned as a child.

Then it's good you did learn good ones as a child! When we hold a little service at the Home where Mum-in-law is, tunes are often remembered and trigger memories of the words, but this new generation aren't learning many hymns much. Mum-in-law (104, and failing somewhat now) suddenly said suddenly in quite a loud voice, while I think the next song was being introduced, 'that was 'Rock of ages'!' Rhiannon

is that me or my 104 year old mother-in-law who is a great-gran (not super gran!)?!

Seriously, it was lovely to realise that she still knew the words to the great hymn, 'Rock of ages'! Rhiannon
