Peeping at the Borrowed Plumes
Footsteps, voices echo in the hall,
Mam and Dad are going to the ball,
with Grandad, Gran and Auntie Sue
– let’s peep through the banisters for a view
of glittering jewels on sparkling dress,
jackets and waistcoats made to impress –
borrowed from the actors’ vintage collection,
bedecked for a night for this special invitation.
Oh, I’d love to draw and sew, design
dresses like that, which swish, swirl and shine!
