Winter Wonderland (2) Sunshine

Blue sky and sunshine,
soft snow glitters;
warm light, air cold.
Walking into town,
hard-packed pavement centres –
safer foothold
on the snowy edges.
Back home down the fields:
white view to Titterstone Clee to the north,
and westwards to Hay Bluff –
flitting flock squeak in and out of the teasel patch,
nibbling seed heads – goldfinch?
– too bright to see.

Hi Rhiannon,

I haven't had the courage to venture out yet, still too icy on the pavements, so it was nice to read your poem. I like the photo too.

Thank you, Jenny. Yes, the glittering snow is lovely isn't it?

You are right not to venture out unless you have to, particularly with your new hip. I came a cropper this morning despite all my husband's warnings to take care, and I was, or so I thought. But no harm done, but a warning. I had been taking care walking to see mother-in-law, and stepping carefully on soft and packed snow and white icy patches, but saw a section of plain tarmac and walked straight on to it not realising it was a sheet of glass-like black ice – it was under a tree which had been dripping down and the drops freezing to a glass-like layer, invisible unless you looked carefully! I sat down rather hard and suddenly. Rhiannon

!! I think it would have been braver, or, for me, more foolish, to try to take the car yesterday morning, our short lane was packed ice. It isn't far, about 20 mins, a bit longer coming back over the hill fields, and that certainly was worth the effort for the shining views and freshening up! Rhiannon
