Was she his savior? Had Jesus sent her? Had God sent her?
Was she the Holy Spirit?
The water quenched his thirst. Then he began to think about why he rejected morality. He was disgusted by the hypocrisy of all it. People doing the wrong things while they pretended to be good, moral people. He just wanted things to be real. If people were just interested in what gave them pleasure, they should just say so and do what they wanted. All this pretense of being morally superior to other people while having affairs and ripping other people off seemed to be so useless. Sure, laws concerning motion and energy and gravitation existed in the Universe, but moral laws were meant to be created by men, not God or Superintelligent Forms. He had followed the laws of pleasure and it had lead him to spiritual death. He no longer looked at people as people, but as animals. It was disgusting! His path had obviously been the wrong one. At the same time, he could not imagine himself going to Church and being a conformist. They too looked dead to him, going about their days, doing one thing after another and believing themselves to be saved by Christ. Many of them were actually decent women or men, but they did not look happy or spiritual in his eyes.
Out in the desert, he found himself staring at this beautiful woman with an endless supply of water in her cup.
Was she real?
