My son Daniel had a bus pass it cost around £25 a month this was when he was at school and with his Sister Meghan also having one too, it cost me £50 a month!
After Daniel left school he had a different kind of bus pass for those a certain age, I was informed by the bus company he was now not allowed to have the same one like when he was at school, so I was forced to change it! The good thing though it was a lot cheaper. Then he went on a Course, we were informed all the Students, their bus travel would be paid, the Course was near home, walking distance, a stone’s throw from our house, so he didn’t need his bus pass at all, so I stopped it, as money was tight! It was just a waste of money.
Then one day I noticed Daniel had a bus pass!?! It was a tatty old thing; I asked him what he was doing with it, he replied, “I use this when I go to my friend’s house.” I told him, “You can’t use that!” He said, “I’ve only been thrown off the bus once!” So I told him I would rang the bus company and get him an up to date bus pass, as I didn’t want him to be thrown off the bus again, if he was near or far from home. But I forgot and months and months passed and then recently, while he was with me and the phone on loud speaker, I rang the bus company and they asked me a few questions about him, his age now and where he was likely to travel, for each place had different prices, and early mornings was still another price, it was SO confusing! So I chose places and times and she told me it is for seven days, it would be £56 a week! I remind her that “My Son is unemployed!!!” She said, “That is the price!” I was beyond stunned! With Daniel listening with me, I hung up the phone and handed back to him his tatty, very old looking bus Pass, for him to carry on using!
I couldn’t afford £50 a month for both children, and I certainly couldn’t afford £25 a month for Meghan and £56 a week for Daniel, so at last my eyes were opened; now I finally understood!
