I want to burn up
I want to explode
I want my feeble, vapid soul to rise up
and take hold.
I want to cast off my possessions
pull out all the wires
reject the ruling narcissists
the sycophants and liars, that
burn up virtue
gleefully
as if tossing
forbidden books
on fierce and fickle fires.
As the earthly shell is burnt to dust
on the funeral pyre
so I must burn my vanity,
my ego, my desires.
For I'd rather walk barefoot than
have a part in this conspiracy to
imprison my mind
and yours,
to make us slaves
to a hideous
nameless
cause.
But of course
I won't.
That wouldn't be practical.

Powerful, the speaker marches right through this poem and leaves us on a bitter note.
