Ornithophobia

No lovelier creature inhabits this place
Than the one that possesses such eloquent grace;
I refer to, of course, the species called 'bird',
Such variety contained in just one simple word.
I can quite safely say that they fill me with awe,
But I know I would die if one flew through my door.
Although they enthral me, the problem's quite clear,
If one's close beside me it fills me with fear.
What feeds this emotion is not very plain,
But if I touched a bird it would drive me insane:
So I'll watch them forever whilst in a safe hide
And pray very hard that they won't come inside.
I know that I'm stupid and rather absurd
To be scared to death of the tiniest bird,
But still I find pleasure observing them live
And, if I could, I know that I'd give
Anything so that I'd never be scared
Of God's loveliest creature - the bird
