Festival Of Life (Freeform poem)

I
was born and
life
took my hand;
whirled
me round up-
on this world.
 
My
heart began
to
beat beat and
life
infront of
me unfurled.
 
A carnival;
a festival
began.
 
Life's wonderful
and beautiful
new land.
 
When
I was young
I
felt immortal.
I
never thought all
of it could end.
 
I
was so small,
life
looked gigantic
and
a romantic
world of pretend.
 
But then,
alas,
at childhoods end.
 
I had
to join
the world of men.
 
The adult world so full of worry that is always moving;
where you keep running to stand still;
where every day's surviving; striving; ever self improving
till one day you're over the hill.
 
And then
you realize you're
old now
 
And you
wonder where
life went.
 
You got
through the whole thing
somehow
 
But you
wonder what
it all meant
 
There were some
good times;
yes there were
bad times
but all the
good times
made it worthwhile.
 
So many
memories;
some not nice
memories
but there are
memories
that still make me
smile

I like suites like Mussorgsky's 'Pictures From An Exhibition' or Saint-Saëns's 'Carnival of the Animals' or a medley like 'You never give me your money/Sun King/Mean Mister Mustard/Polythene Pam/She came in through the bathroom window/Golden Slumbers/Carry that weight/The End' from side 2 of Abbey Road and so I wanted to have a freeform poem like that which transitioned between different poem fragments with different rhythms.
