The Magic Staircase (Revised)

In front of you is a round table with 13 wizards coins upon it. Please take some of the coins and count out the number that you’ve taken.

Now, in front of you is a staircase.

Place one of your coins upon the second step.

Now however many coins you have left, go up that number of stairs.

Now go up that same number of stairs again.

Now leave one of the coins on the step in front of you.

How many coins do you have left now? Whatever number of coins you now have left, go down that number of steps.

Now go down that number of steps again.

You should now be standing upon the step where you left the first coin.
