Spiritual

Waiting in a well

I am here to learn a lesson, what it is I cannot say.

Spirit of the Lord

I wrote the first verse of this song in 1982 and the last 2 verses in 1994. It is an interesting song about the Holy Spirit that has stood the test of time.

The Lonely Old Woman

I remember an old lady who I looked after when I worked in a hospital. She had no surviving relatives and was particularly distressed about having no one to grieve when she died.

Humanity Made Sadness An Illness

I have spent many years learning to cope with my own depression and helping other people with their's. I came to the conclusion that mental illness is basically unhappiness.

Little Carrie

I wrote this song about a drug addict who I met begging for money in Victoria Coach Station in London.

The Runaway

I wrote this poem about a friend who had several relationships with women but frequently left them and seemed to be happy living on the streets of London.

The Tramp On Northumberland Street

A poem I wrote about a tramp who used to live on Northumberland Street in Newcastle. He disappeared after 1992 and I understand his name was Tom and he was killed by a car near Newcastle Airport.

How Bizarre

I was bullied at school and was unemployed for many years. Having listened to a record on a budget CD entitled, 'How Bizarre,' I wrote this poem about some of the things that are bizarre in my life.

Darkness

I wrote a poem about an alcoholic. It was intended as a joke. My friend said, 'I was an alcoholic. That's exactly what it was like.' He asked someone to read it out in church.
