Like Migratory Birds

I opened my eyes and
Saw that you had
Left. I glanced to
The right
And saw the impression
Left on
The bedspread. As far as
Goodbyes go
This one barely
Qualifies. A simple
Hug could have
Made all the difference.
Like autumn
Leaves we fell
From the branch
And landed in different
Realms. I know
That eventually we will
Have time to reflect
On the moments
We touched,
And whispered hello.
But for now
We must separate
And go our own ways;
Like migratory birds.
