Alice ( Part 3)

Alice sat down slowly and let the information sink in.

“Scorpion?”

David went over and sat beside her on the couch, he took hold of her hand.

“Look Alice, your body is changing. Your DNA is different than it was before, the closest match that I could find was that of a Scorpion, makes sense if you think about it, the sting that comes from your tail, the fact that you sting prior to intercourse is common in Scorpions, they do this to pacify their sexual partner.”

Alice took her hand away.

“David, are you saying that I am part Scorpion?”

“All I’m saying is that your DNA resembles that of a Scorpion just as much as it resembles a human, so yes, I suppose at the moment you are a bit of both.”

She looked up at the ceiling and then shook her head.

“So what now, what’s the plan.”

“More tests I’m afraid, but it could be good news, we can try adding some Scorpion antidotes to the serum. Analgesia and morphine are two common things found in Scorpion antidote, we could try those first, the main thing from now on is we keep you under close scrutiny. I’m afraid you’ll have to stay inside for the next few days, at least till I’m sure we have it back under control.”

Alice looked deflated. For the past year she’d been allowed to act a fairly normal life, apart from during her monthly cycle when she had a craving for alcohol and a strong sexual urge. So three weeks of every month she went out as normal but kept herself indoors for one week while David upped her serum dose. It had worked fine until now. But now she would be a prisoner again, just like before.

David could see the disappointment in her face. He decided to change the subject.

“Still no memories of childhood?”

“None, it’s as though I was born when I was twelve, I can’t remember a thing before then. My first memory is waking up under Lambeth Bridge covered in a sheet of cardboard and shaking from the cold, that’s it.”

“Maybe we could try hypnosis again, see if works this time?”

They both remembered the Hypnosis from before. Alice was put under easily enough and for the first few minutes everything was calm. Then the Hypnotist tried to take her back to her childhood, that’s when it all went crazy. Alice started to shake uncontrollably, milky liquid drooled from her mouth, her eyes darted from side to side as though she was surrounded by her enemies and looking for an escape route, then strange noises came from her throat. The Hypnotist quickly brought her back and they never tried again.

Alice gave him one of her looks.

“Not a good idea.”

David nodded in agreement.

“When’s your period due?”

“Tomorrow, it’s always as regular as clockwork; I can even give you an estimated time as well, around ten thirty in the morning to be precise.”

“Okay, so we have twelve hours to get through. We know that once you start your period everything calms down, but it’s the few days just before that are the worst times. I’m hoping that the double dose of serum I’ve given you will see you through, how do you feel at the moment?”

“Thirsty, very thirsty.”

Alice got up and walked over to the drinks table and stood beside the large jug of water, she had her back to David so he couldn’t see what she was doing. She picked up a glass, but instead of putting water in it, she snatched at the vodka bottle and filled her glass. Still out of sight of David, she sat back down and drank the contents of the glass.

“You being thirsty isn’t a good sign Alice, I think we should go back down the cellar and do another blood test.”

Alice just stared at him.

“Alice, you okay?”

Alice stood up, still staring at David; she walked back towards the drinks table never once taking her eyes off him. It was as if she was stalking her prey. David had seen this a number of times before but never with this intensity. Alice once again filled her glass with vodka.

“Alice, don’t drink it, please, let’s just go down the cellar and I can make you well again.”

She downed her drink in one. Her eyes had turned a deep yellow colour and were now darting around the room as though they were looking for an escape route. They then turned back to David. Alice spoke, he voice had become deeper.

“Come and kiss me David, I know you want to, you’ve always wanted to haven’t you, well now you can, come and kiss me.”

David realised just how dangerous the situation had become, this was the worst he had ever seen her. The extra dosage obviously hadn’t worked. He played along.

“Tell you what Alice, why don’t we go down the cellar, much more quiet and private down there and there are the beds, we could get nice and cosy.”

Alice smiled at him.

“See, I knew it, you want me don’t you, you’ve always wanted me.”

David smiled at her and made his way towards the door. He slowly turned the handle and opened the door. Alice watched his every move, her eyes staring at him all the time, her tongue rolling over her lips as if they were dry and she was moistening them. She walked towards him.
Before she could reach him, David had moved quickly through the door and into the hallway, he closed the door behind him and locked it. Alice was still on the other side. He heard her scream, then she was shouting.

“You fucking coward David, you never could handle me could you? You want to have me but you can’t get it up, is that the problem David, not man enough?”

He stood with his back to the door. He could hear the sounds of furniture being moved, things smashing against the walls then the sound of glass shattering. Then silence.

He waited a full ten minutes before he dared entered, dreading what he would find.

The room was a mess, it looked like a hurricane had blown through, then he saw the smashed windows and glass everywhere. Alice was gone.
