Dawn encroaches...
a grey heron ascends –
thwarts the newborn mists, legs awry.
Laboriously it rises
wings extended spread
a sombrous shawl across the moor.
A sprinkling of snow
glitters on the ground
like a sprinkling
of glitter-dust;
the pond a solid sheet of ice,
a haven, temporarily; fish quiescent, sleep.
A last leaf, wooed
by a skittish, easterly squall, succumbs –
haphazardly falls from the willow;
above – a red-kite mewls
to its mate. A distant thrum –
the glimpse of a woodpecker, tap-tapping;
the bark of a muntjac
slicing through the whiteness,
the oneness of it all...

Some beautiful scenes of nature in this poem Tina.
As you know I'm a lover of nature and the seasons,
so this poem was right up my street.
Jenny.
