Tripping the Light Fantastic

Gliding on the dance floor,
and very light on her feet,
she was an excellent dancer.
But her partner was clumsy
and was more of a prancer
than a lithe terpsichorean.
When the orchestra struck
the notes of a slow waltz
he would up the tempo
and do a mazurka instead.
Not a plodder but a dasher,
he often acted on impulse.
Then, hit by Cupid’s arrow,
fell heads over heels in love
with the woman in his arms.
A comet streaked in the sky
as she said yes to marriage
and succumbed to his charms.
