When raging rivers burst their banks
and torrents churn in
filthy threats to life and limb,
doors are bolted; blocked with sand
and by a candle's dimming quip
we shiver in the gloom and moan
while knowing dark shall pass,
as it always does come dawn.
Come dawn!
