The trees that make it bearable

Have something to show me

Something to say, they whisper

All anew in May, rustling

Fresh taffeta layers that

Spell the word ALIVE in

Every shade of green

Limbs, studded with life

Toward me, they quietly lean

They’re landmarks on the way

Living gods to which I turn

At every turn, they’re always true

In times of swell and in decay

Inviting me, ‘look up’ they say

‘Play stuck in the mud,’

Arms outstretched to all

A miracle in every bud

Pillars of earth and sky

Hosts of the purest notes

Belted from beaks up high  

Constant friends as all

Around we rush and wobble

And die inside

The trees implore me to believe

I am alive

yeh, I quite liked the ents in Lord of the Rings. I guess we think of trees as miracles and rightly so.

This reminds me of a book I had as a child about trees, and had an odd little story where an alien is supposed to end up saying he preferred the beings with the green heads!
The amazing unfurling of the fresh green, and the steadiness of the rooted, steady shelter is soothing, and speaks to me of the provision, and skills of their Creator and Upholder, like a parable in a way – Belted from beaks up high! to us in our rush and wobble. Rhiannon

Thanks Rhiannon - the green heads are so restorative, humans are sort of draining. Trees really do provide - the oxygen and so much more.
