Time and Chance

The race is long,
purportedly not
to the swift
or the strong.
Yet you and I,
who consider ourselves wise,
want for bread,
and understand our
lack of riches.
We, who are skilled,
expect no favor
and receive none,
whilst others will.
I read that time
and chance happen to us all
but they do
not belabour any
but the weakest.
We are snared
in an evil time;
like fish in a net
or cruelly hunted birds.

The 'common lot' in this
The 'common lot' in this present damaged world does not exclude providential helps in the struggles, or the eternal promise to faith, and warnings to the comfortably rebellious.
'I envied the arrogant … they have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. They are free from the burdens common to man … Surely you place them on slippery ground … those who are far from you will perish… but is is good for me to be near God; I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge. ' Psalm 73:3, 18, 27,28

the rise of the right, with all their might, has struck down the poor and with no saviour in sight it's a long and lonely black nightt. Will it end in apocalypse, I do not know, but I'm of the mind, increasingly I worry and think so.
