Apathy and Ecstacy;
everything is irony;
new TV reality
thats all the 90's meant to me.
 
Crass lad culture magazines;
nothing for a 90's teen;
no punks but the cyber kind;
a wasteland all that I could find.
 
Brand names would be fetishized;
my Tamagotchi pet would die
and into apathy I'd plunge
and drown myself in sounds of grunge.
 
But slacker culture they could keep;
dressed in layers but not deep.
I wanted to protest; campaign;
not kill myself like Kurt Cobain.
 
Then worst of all; along came Blair;
I looked left and nothing was there
Britannia was cool they said
but Labour would be blue not red.
 
So I stared at my magic eye
and to see something deeper, tried
as in slow, sadcore songs I drowned
those soulless 60's upside down.

aye, blair might have been bad, but to look at what we've got now,

Like you, there must have been many others, biding their time. Problem is the blue labour lot who won't let go, it's hard having to fight on two fronts

1) Blair might have been bad? What?? I beg you to look at the link between Labour - Harvards Kennedy School - and the CIA. The evidence of these links is open, well documented, uncontroversial and uncontestable making it highly likely that all the Blairites were working for the CIA. Why would the CIA do that? Because they've been trying to do it (turn the Labour party into a clone of the American Democrat party) ever since the CIA set up the "European Congress For Cultural Freedom" in the 50's.

2) Can't believe that Jeremy Corbyn is a nut if the Political right are using such a large sledgehammer to try and crack him and whatever scares them gives me hope; their hate for him, a glowing recommendation.

Hi Di,

the poem was about becoming a teenager in the 90's, fed on the documented counterculture of the 50's/60's/70's and 80's, looking around for a counterculture for my generation that  ​I could join and realizing there wasn't any. The hypnotic hedonism of rave and club culture seemed like something out of Brave New World and the cynical apathy of Grunge music had nothing to inspire me. The Beautiful South were probably one of the few exceptions although I'd already been a Housemartins fan.
