Sam Sawyer Chapter Nine
It took a few moments for the word Soloran to worm its way into Sam’s sun drunk mind. Photonic euphoria will do that to a lowbred. Which is what he was, at least in the eyes of his abductors.
“Soloran, awake. You were not brought here to rest or enjoy our indulgence.”
Sam’s heavily muscled body stirred. Cool air kissed his bare back and chest. A deep sigh escaped his mouth.
“Good.” Her shrieking high- pitched reply cut through his ears like a razor.
“Hey, hey, not so loud…” He said just as his eyes and his mind fluttered open. Three white robed- figures towered over his right side. Two men, giants really, for they were at least seven feet tall, flanking a slightly shorter female. Their features were perfect, high cheek bones, strong jaws, square faces, flawlessly proportioned features, framed by thick long manes of hair so blond it looked like it was spun from gold. Three pair of cobalt-blue eyes literally sparkled as they peered down at him with such intense disdain, he hardly noticed the whale swimming past them over head. They were in a bubble at the bottom of the ocean. Earths’ ocean he presumed. It was a whale after all. He just didn’t know which ocean, not that it mattered. He wasn’t staying. He was no honored guest. She had made that abundantly clear.
“Soloran,” the female asked as she bent over him and pressed her right fist hard against the center of his chest. It was warm, too warm, intrusive, like a laser beam trying to burn into him. A thick red plaid flannel shirt suddenly materialized over his upper body, somehow forcing her hand away. A millisecond later jeans and boots were covering the rest of his body which had been floating four feet above the floor. Much to their surprise, he was even now righting himself to a standing position, totally unaware he was easily defying one of their strongest force restraints. By the look of shock on their faces it was clear they had grossly underestimated him.
The female stepped back, her hands now clenched against her chest, as the two giant men stepped in front of her. “What are you? Why are you here?” She demanded her voice shrill with fear now.
Sam threw his shoulders back, clear headed and confident now. “Why do you call me Soloran? Why did you take me? Who are you? Second thought, I don’t care. You’re not good. And that’s good enough for me.”
“You know nothing.” She hissed, taking another step back.
“You touched me,” Sam replied, “trying to get in, or trying to push me back into my place? I’m not your bug, lady. What? You didn’t know that. Well I do.”
“You touched our Sun.” She accused, “It changed you. You touched her. You changed her. This cannot be. This is not, allowed. You cannot be.” Blondie was yelling now. “She cannot be!”
“What? You touch her, you die!”
“Take him!” Her protectors lunged at him and his body reacted accordingly.
One second, four large vice like hands were rushing at him, the next he was looking at a shimmering image of Kathy sitting at a pick nick table. He had not only astral projected again, but somehow managed to take his body along for the ride. Without thinking he grabbed her, snatching her to his chest. Her bologna sandwich dropped right out her mouth which suddenly disappeared right in front of Jessie and Mick, two male teachers, her usual lunch mates.
The cool greyness of his forest suddenly engulfed them in its cool sheltering embrace. The air shimmering around them as they stepped out unto its soft pine straw floor.
“Sam! What are you doing? I was just eating lunch. My kids, I can’t just leave my kids!” She yelled squirming from his arms as she spoke.
“You didn’t leave them Kathy. I took you. But I had to. I’m sorry.”
“Had to? Sykes have a brother or something?”
Sam grabbed the back of his neck, not knowing quite what to tell her. “This is on me, kinda, don’t know that I had a choice, though. But the sun thing, yeah that was all me.”
“What are you talking about?” Kathy put her hands on her hips, demanding a better explanation. “The sun thing! What sun thing?”
“I changed again Kathy, I drank the sun,” He sighed. “It was good, too good. Thing is, I’m not the only Alien freakazoid here. There are others, under the sea. I think they’re Nordics, sure looked like Nordics,” he grunted, “and acted like Nazis. Anyway, they took me, told me I can’t be, that, that, you cannot be. That’s a threat Kathy, against you. Ah you don’t feel any different, do you?”
“What!”
“They said I changed you.”
Her eyes jerked up at him, then narrowed. “Changed me, what do you mean, changed?”
“When I touched your mind, that night in the garage, when I saved you.”
Her eyes softened, “oh, yeah of course. No, I feel like me, no powers, just questions-a boat load of them.”
Kathy’s beautiful blonde hair began to rise. Sam rushed to her side but did not disappear with her.
The air tingled around them. Sam was suddenly glowing again. High above their heads the leaves moved. Sam crouched as he wrapped his right arm around Kathy’s shoulders, cloaking her in an energy shield.
“You’re just full of surprises today.” She quipped.
Sam heard fear in her voice, no amount of snark could hide.
“Something’s up there,” he whispered, “and it’s not the wind.”
A small human shaped distortion rippled through the air leaping and zig zagging through the branches until it came to rest against the massive trunk of an ancient oak twenty feet above their heads.
“I can see you, Mr. Predator.” Sam tossed out the statement, hoping it would be received as an invitation and not a challenge.
“Mr.,” A girls’ voice rang in his ear like a tiny bell.
“Hey, you’re the one playing hide and seek.” He responded playfully, hoping to put her at ease.
The invisible girl giggled. “I’ve been hiding in your woods for weeks.” She said as she eased down from the tree and withdrew her cloak. “If we’re playing hide and seek you suck at it. Of course I have been keeping my distance, just in case…””
Kathy smiled pulling free from Sam’s protective embrace as she made her way toward the fourteenish girl, whose loose long black hair covered the left half of her pretty face. A leather jump suit and black ankle boots neatly covered the rest of her spring -loaded petite body.,
“You climb like a squirrel.” Kathy said, her voice filled with admiration.
“Ahh, thank you, so that’s what you noticed huh? Okay,” said the newcomer, her bright green eyes betraying a smile she appeared determined not to share. “I should.” She said leaning back against the tree, obviously trying to look self- assured. “The Oloran made me part squirrel and a bunch of other stuff. They love to mix and match just to see what comes out. They’re kinda sadistic that way.”
“They are sadists,” Said Sam, warming up to the girl. “They drove my parents into early graves.”
“Sorry,” She replied. “They just drove my parents away from me.”
“Where do you live…” Kathy stammered not knowing her name, “What may I call you?”
“Kit, just Kit. That’s all the name I want or need.”
