Hard Glass
By Paul McCann
Life can be lonely now and then
without a friend or two ,
when no one seems to care
about what I’m going through
there’s a hard glass that I own in the cupboard on a shelf
and I’ll pour in a little drop and drink to my good health
When I’m lying in my bed
and sleep won’t come easily
I’ll get up on my feet
with a hard glass next to me.
Like an old boat in a jar , we never really go too far,
see a hard glass there and me know exactly who we are
Sweet dreams for the sorrow and a better day tomorrow
and all I understand is a hard glass in my hand
Hardships come and go
until good times come along ,
a hard glass is all I know
soon my troubles will be gone ,
when the world all has gone mad
and the best friend that I’ve had
is the hard glass that I have
that keeps me from going bad
A hard glass for the suffering and a hard glass for the tears,
a hard glass for the sad
and lonely years
